Peer Counseling

The peer counseling program offers confidential, no-cost counseling services to older adults in Monterey County who are experiencing some of the problems that accompany the aging process.

Senior Peer Counselors offer emotional support and guidance to people over the age of 55 who may be facing the death of a spouse, the stress of an illness, isolation from family or friends, and other life transitions. Talking with someone of a similar age, with related life experiences and values, can help a person work through feelings – or make decisions – about the challenging issues associated with aging.

If you are interested in learning more about this important program and how you can help seniors in need, contact Tamara McKee or Nan Heflin.

The Monterey County Behavioral Health Bureau is conducting a community health needs assessment as part of the Community Program Planning Process to better understand the community’s needs regarding mental health, substance use, and housing services. The survey is OPEN NOW until October 31st.  Please allow for 12 to 15 minutes to complete the survey.
The information gathered from this survey will help MCBH enhance service delivery under California’s new Behavioral Health Services Act , prioritizing individuals with the most critical mental and behavioral health needs while expanding housing services. We greatly appreciate your support.
