A funding cut tied to Proposition 1 is putting vulnerable seniors in Monterey County at risk right now.
THE ISSUE
Because of changes to mental health funding under Proposition 1, Monterey County Behavioral Health is facing an estimated 35% budget reduction.
As a result, funding has been reduced or eliminated for more than 20 nonprofit partners across the county.
One of the programs completely cut is Alliance on Aging’s bilingual Senior Peer Counseling Program.
WHY IT MATTERS
This program is the only mental health support of its kind in Monterey County focused specifically on seniors.
It serves older adults experiencing:
• Loneliness
• Grief
• Depression
• Major life transitions
For many, this is not just a service it is their only consistent human connection.
A weekly conversation.
A trusted voice.
A reason to keep going.
THE CONSEQUENCE
Without restored funding, seniors especially those who are low-income and Spanish speaking will lose access to this essential support.
They will be left to navigate some of life’s most difficult moments alone.
We cannot let that happen.
TAKE ACTION
Take action today. Contact your County Supervisor and urge them to restore funding for the Alliance on Aging Senior Peer Counseling Program.

Please Restore Funding for Senior Peer Counseling
Message:
I am writing to urge you to restore funding for Alliance on Aging’s bilingual Senior Peer Counseling program in Monterey County.
Due to recent changes under Proposition 1, this program has lost critical funding and is now at risk of disappearing.
For many older adults, this program is their only consistent source of human connection. It supports seniors who are isolated, grieving, and struggling with depression through compassionate, one-on-one support.
Without it, some of our most vulnerable residents especially low-income and Spanish-speaking seniors will be left without anyone to turn to.
I respectfully ask that you prioritize restoring funding so these essential services can continue.
Thank you for your leadership and your commitment to our community.
If you are able, you can also help sustain this program directly.
Because we are all in this together and together, we can make sure no senior in our community is left to face life alone.
