Employment Training

The Senior Employment Training Program provides low income individuals with temporary jobs in nonprofit or public organizations while receiving on-the-job training in order to enter the private workforce.

Participants are paid $8.00 per hour for working twenty hours per week. Household income is the primary consideration to qualify for the program and includes Social Security, pensions, interest, dividends, alimony, and rental income.

To qualify, participants must be:

  • Age 55 or older
  • Reside in Monterey County
  • Income-eligible

Contact Julia Meza at 831-655-7564 to apply to the program.

Learn more about becoming a Host Agency.

The SET Program paid for my course in computer training, something I could never afford on my own. I learned so much from the course and my assignment that I’ve been hired as a clerk at the local library.

Benefits to the Employer

The mission of the Senior Employment Training Program is to empower older adults to achieve gainful employment and personal development through their participation in community service and training.

As a Host Agency, your organization:

  • Increases organizational capacity by 20 hours per week
  • Provides a one year training assignment to a Senior Employment Trainee
  • Has the opportunity to assess our trainees prior to committing to permanent employment
  • Does not pay the participant; stipends are paid directly by the Alliance on Aging

Contact Jerry Sera at 831-655-7561 to find out how your organization can participate.

Our participants are conscientious workers, with a strong work ethic. They show up on time every day. They display a high degree of loyalty to their jobs. As a manager, those are qualities I value in an employee.
